Welcome to the official website for Canadian author Ian Ferguson. Ian has enjoyed a lengthy and prolific career in the entertainment industry. He is an author, playwright, educator; and a producer and director working in both theatre and television. He is currently based in Victoria, BC.
Ian has three new non-fiction books. BEING CANADIAN is the much anticipated follow-up to HOW TO BE CANADIAN (Douglas &McIntyre) launching in Fall 2020. THE SURVIVAL GUIDE TO B.C. (Heritage House); and TRUDEAU ON TRUDEAU: THE DEEP THOUGHTS OF CANADA'S 23rd PRIME MINISTER (Simon and Schuster) were released Fall 2019 and have appeared on Best Seller lists. Ian produced and directed SHE KILLS ME a comedy series featuring funny women. It aired nationally on APTN in 2014-2015. Ian also wrote, directed and produced a feature documentary GONE SOUTH: HOW CANADA INVENTED HOLLYWOOD which was broadcast on SuperChannel and screened at a number of Film Festivals in Canada and the US.
Ian is the creator & director of the popular live comedy show SIN CITY THE LIVE IMPROVISED SERIAL produced by Broad Theatrics in Victoria. Ian grew up in Northern Alberta as one of six siblings. His unique childhood was the inspiration for his award-winning memoir VILLAGE OF THE SMALL HOUSES. Ian studied set design at Mount Royal College in Calgary, going on to earn a BFA degree in Acting from the University of Alberta in Edmonton, and later, an MFA in Theatre Directing from Toronto's York University.
